Old Business District sign | Webb Ave. (NC Hwy. 87-100) @ Lexington Ave., Burlington [Map] | This informative sign alerts those driving large trucks and other related vehicles to the parking situation downtown. Hopefully, that should leave those truckers with just enough time to unload their cargo and leave. NOTE: In early 2004, these signs were replaced with newer versions. |
No Tractor Trailer Parking sign | La Vista Dr. @ Meadowbrook Dr., Burlington [Map] | It just so happens that there is a business located at the end of this otherwise residential street. Since it attracts a lot of truck-related traffic, the residents made sure not to let those big rigs park anywhere near their homes. |
Brown Willow Creek sign | Edgewood Ave. @ E. Willowbrook Dr., Burlington [Map] | This has to be the only known sign of its kind for a particular body of water, even if it is for a small urban creek. |
Dual Parking Restriction sign | Worth St. @ Davis St., across from Zack's Hotdogs; Burlington [Map] | You'd better not leave your vehicle downtown for long periods of time during the day or in the wee hours of the morning. This unusual, two-pronged parking limit is designed to keep prime spaces available when needed. |

Visitor Center sign | Randolph St. (NC Hwy. 109) @ Main St., Thomasville [Map] | Interestingly enough, this sign is located adjacent to "The Big Chair", a symbol of that town's sterling reputation for making fine quality furniture. Of course, you'll have to be careful crossing some seriously busy railroad tracks to get there. |

Elongated Double Arrow sign | Main St. (NC Hwy. 150) @ Piney Grove Rd. , Kernersville [Map] |
These unusually long arrows do indeed stand out on this heavily traveled fork in the road, located just north of the town's business district. |

Old Cadillac & Oldsmobile signs | Bill Black Cadillac dealership; Bessemer Ave. @ Yanceyville St., Greensboro [Map] [Dealer website] | This rather unusual sign combo dates back to mid-1960s, and is in amazingly impeccable condition. It'll be interesting to see what happens in a few months, when GM discontinues the Oldsmobile line. |
Two-tone Watershed sign | Horsepen Creek Rd. @ Quaker Run Dr., Greensboro [Map] | Nice color arrangement for a sign that raises awareness of ecologically sensitive areas around the Gate City. |
Outlet on Sharp Bend sign | Finch Ave. @ Porter St., off I-85 Business; High Point [Map] | This sign doesn't quite give as much justice to the impending bend in the road as it may appear. But at least it gives the motorist the need to be especially careful when maneuvering this tricky little spot. |
Adopt-A-Street sign | Holden Rd. @ Vandalia Rd., Greensboro [Map] | This community service sign really does stand out with a nice use of the road image in the background and eye-catching font. Both elements bring a touch of cleverness, which makes it truly unique. |
Turning Traffic sign | Friendly Ave. @ W. Greenway Dr., Greensboro [Map] | The lack of a center turn lane and poor line-of-sight along this busy thoroughfare makes turning left quite a challenge in this established residential neighborhood. At least these signs help make getting around easier at key intersections that had been troublesome in the past. |
Church Warning sign | Lexington Ave. @ Cook St., High Point [Map] | The Lexington Avenue Baptist Church is located inside a rather sharp bend in the road. The sign was put in place to protect churchgoers from the occasional wayward motorist. |
ACC Drive sign | Patterson Ave. @ High Point Rd., across from Greensboro Coliseum; Greensboro [Map] | The home of the greatest collegiate conference in the country is immortalized within a bank shot of the home for many of its college basketball tournaments. That place will probably get even more crowded with Miami, Virginia Tech, and Boston College joining ranks before too long. |
Passing Zone sign | Burlington Rd. (US 70 East) @ Knox Rd., near Sedalia [Map] | This stretch of highway in the eastern part of the county is one of few spots in North Carolina with "suicide" lanes, or sections designated as free passing zones. Essentially, these roads have three lanes in spots, with one lane going east and two going west, and vice versa. These passing lanes date back to as early as the 1920s, and is only one of a handful of special passing zones still in use today. |

Adopt-A-Spot sign | Jackson St. @ Meadow Rd., Eden [Map] | This used to be one of those adopt-a-street signs that was later modified to focus on specific areas near busy roads. In this case, that would be the green patch of land surrounding a nearby semi-controlled intersection providing access to Van Buren Rd. |
Sharp Left and Right Turn Overhead signs | Henry St. @ Jay St., Eden [Map] | The streets of downtown Eden must be pretty narrow or tight enough for these signs to have a more literal meaning to them. |
